Fallout 4
Fallout 4 Useful info:
- Once you have the second rank of the Local Leader perk in the Charisma tree, you can create stores which will increase your town's happiness and income based on population. And it's very convenient to have your own doctor in town!
- To cure radiation (for 40 caps) without the side effects or risk of addiction, just head to any local doctor: Diamond City (across from hairdresser), Bunker Hill (left of the entrance), or Goodneighbor.
- To force a companion to equip (or wear apparel): switch to their inventory in the trade menu and a button will show up to have the NPC equip the item. ("Triangle" for PS4)
- Water pumps, farms, and traders deposit the Items and Caps they produce into the workbench. Caps show up in MISC intead of being automatically added to your total.
- To assign settlers select them in the crafting screen/build menu--then select the object you want them to work (food item, store, bed, etc).
- Highlighting a settler in workshop mode/build menu will also highlight anything he's assigned to.
- Settlers can work up to 6 Food at a time. Meaning a settler can tend to 12 plants that produce .5 food each.
- To reduce raider attacks make sure your defense state is higher than food + water.
- Get your pickpocket perk up to 3. Sneak up behind a metal power suit-wearing Brotherhood Of Steel guy. Steal the Fusion Core. He then pops out of his now semi-non-functional suit and leaves it there, so you can then rob limb, torso and helmet armor upgrades from it.
- Cook stuff to get XP. Also, it'll convert the food into curing more HP than when it was uncooked.
- To get better prices from merchants (and increase the MAX cap for settlement size) get your CHARISMA as high as possible. Once your CHR is 10, find the Charisma Bobblehead to make your Charisma 11. Wear +2 CHR suit, +1 CHR glasses, +1 CHR hat (instead of armor). You can also add drugs: X-Cell (2), Beer (1 or 2 depending on perks), Grape Mentats (5), Day Tripper (3). Doing all of these will get you to 27 (for a MAX settlement size of 37).
- Stand around the corner from bad guy. Hit button for "scope" (lower left trigger on PS4) & you'll lean around corner without getting hit.
- Instead of using Dogmeat or the RoboButler, pick a human companion. Trade with him & equip him with better armor/weapon. Unsure if I have to give him ammo or not.
- You might be scrapping/selling all those lame weapons you find, but if it's got a single decent mod on it, keep it take it back to the weapon mod station, remove the mod, then put that mod on your already modded version of the weapon and hey presto! you've got a Gun Nut Level 3 mod when you're only Level 1 skilled on your weapon.
- Don't wear heavy armor when trying to sneak/pickpocket
- Holster your weapon (hold square button on PS4) to move faster.
- Hold Circle button to turn on a flashlight on your PipBoy. Turn it off when you don't want to be seen.
- The MAX size of each settlement is 10 plus your current Charisma level.
- Once you've got a follower in a power suit, you can ask them to take it off through the TALK menu so that you can perform maintenance.
- The color of your PipBoy screen (found in display options) affects the color of your flashlight. I changed mine to a warm yellow and things are much more pleasant. Using white makes the flashlight a lot brighter.
- Dogmeat doesn't count as a companion in regard to the Lone Wanderer perk.
- Since the Boston Airport settlement can't have any crops or stores, that it the perfect location to put 28 settlers all doing a Supply Chain route to every other settlement!
- Remember to sleep for an hour before doing things that give XP (cooking, completing quests, etc) to get bonus XP.
- Since Bethesda doesn't seem to be in any hurry to fix the biggest bug (PipBoy shows incorrect data for many settlements and will only fix it when you travel there) feel free to send more settlers to settlements that show a lower population than they have in reality! It you have the MAX 37 settlers in Graygarden but the PipBoy says you have 3, send another 34 settlers there for a total of 71 settlers!
- Trashcan Carla (who wanders back and forth from Sanctuary Hills to Concord) sells blocks of 25 oil (which is otherwise hard to come by, and needed for turrets, etc).
- Myrna at Diamond City Surplus sells the following in the Junk section: Shipment of Adhesive (25), Shipment of Ceramic (25), Shipment of Fertilizer (25), Shipment of Plastic (25), Shipment of Springs (25), Shipment of Steel (100).
- Arturo Rodriguez at Commonwealth Weaponry in Diamond City sells the following in the junk section: Shipment of Aluminum (50), Shipment of Copper (25), Shipment of Gears (25), Shipment of Screws (25).
- Moe Cronin (baseball bat dude in Diamond City) sells the following in the junk section: Shipment of Cork (25), Shipment of wood (100).
- Doctor Sun in Diamond City sells the following in the Junk section: Shipment of Antiseptic (25), Shipment of Glass (25), Shipment of Rubber (25).
- If a settlement says "nothing more can be built", there's a bug to exploit to continue building:
- Gather a lot of weapons. [I grab about 30 that start with "S" for convenience]
- Store them all in red workbench
- Take them all back into your inventory
- Drop all weapons on the ground [Best to go to a small room with a clear floor instead of a grassy area]
- Turn on settlement build mode
- Store items back in workshop while in build mode [when highlighted, hit PS4 circle button to store]
- Watch capacity bar decrease
