In 2006, I bought a 256MB Coby MP3 headset for $32.95 (the one they sent was defective & I had to get a replacement sent). I loved it! It held a couple hours worth of songs and was lightweight. No wires! I could wear it on a 5 mile walk to the store or
while hiking in the mountains or while playing games. It ran on a single AAA battery. I used it on and off for 3 years. It disappeared in 2009, and I really missed it. One year later, I decided I wasn't going to find it, so I researched replacements.
I couldn't find the Coby model for sale online or in stores anywhere. I know Otto brand makes one, but I wasn't impressed with the specs. After extensive research, the following three models look like the best:
- MiiKey MiiSport Blue Wireless Bluetooth 4.0 Headphone with Microphone ,Built-in MP3 player,Supports Micro SD ,Sweat-proof and HD Audio.
This is my new #1 pick! My previous #1 pick ran for 12 hours on a single AAA battery (the others use rechargeable batteries which start at 15 hours but degrade over the months/years). Since I take mine on multi-day hikes, I can't use ones that
use rechargeable batteries. It is the only model with a display. It weighs the least. It is the only model with "shuffle". My only concern is a long glowing review which stated that it will last a year.

USB 2.0 Folding MP3 Player w/Secure Digital Slot (Black) - Behind-the-Head Stereo Headphones w/Built-in MP3 to Work Out Tangle-Free!. My #5 Pick! Insanely cheap, but has no internal memory. If you already have a 4 GB SD card (can be found new for under $10), this is probably the best model for you!
- Comes with one 3.7v AAA litiom ion battery (no idea what the battery life is) which charges from the USB port.
Sony NWZ-W252 Headphone-style Walkman MP3 Player (Metal Gear Solid Camouflage Limited Edition). My #6 Pick! This is from Sony, so I'd trust the quality more than all of the above models. It's also better-looking and not as bulky.
